April 10 is National Siblings Day, and here at the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), we’re celebrating with the Lorenzana brothers. We chatted with Christopher and Ian Lorenzana to learn what makes them such a dynamic team and, more importantly, how they help small business owners and entrepreneurs in their communities start, grow, and succeed in business.
**What do you do at the U.S. Small Business Administration?**
Christopher: I’m the Lead Economic Development Specialist for the SBA Orange County/Inland Empire District Office in Southern California. This means I’m part of a team dedicated to informing, educating, and connecting small businesses and entrepreneurs with the resources they need to start or grow.
Ian: In simple terms, I connect the SBA’s resources to those who need them. My official title is Economic Development Specialist at the SBA Utah District Office. I see myself as a guide, pointing business owners and entrepreneurs to the programs and services that help them overcome obstacles to success. I also try to be an advocate, motivating and supporting business owners, especially when they face bureaucratic challenges.
**What do you love about helping small businesses?**
Christopher: I love contributing to people achieving the American Dream through owning successful businesses. This success allows them to pursue their passions, positively impact society, and set up future generations for success. I see this Dream in action every day! Additionally, I enjoy making connections or providing information that truly helps people, whether it’s introducing them to someone important or sharing useful information they didn’t know about.
Ian: I take great satisfaction in knowing that my work genuinely improves others’ lives. Helping people start and grow their businesses through SBA programs and partnerships transforms lives. It strengthens families and makes our country better. I try to put my best effort into my work, as though I’m doing it for a higher purpose.
**What’s it like working in the same agency as your sibling?**
Christopher: I really enjoy it. We get to share ideas and experiences, especially when working on similar projects. Ian knows my journey at the SBA, and I know his. He’s been my role model and supporter, and I’m grateful for that. With his background in the Army as a combat medic and his strong faith, he’s someone I learn from continually.
Ian: It’s a blessing to share my work experiences with someone as close as my brother and best friend. I always have someone to bounce ideas off of, vent to, or seek advice from.
